Job Duties and Responsibilities:
This person will be responsible for administration and maintenance of all Oracle databases, working closely with the engineering and data warehousing teams on designing and implementing different database components for both external-facing applications and the internal data warehouse. This person will also be responsible for tuning SQL and PL/SQL scripts created by the development/warehousing teams, as well as the maintenance, backup/recovery procedures, system optimization, and capacity planning of all databases. Responsibilities also include providing direction and recommendations to senior management for purchases/upgrades of database technologies. On-call support may be required.
Key Position Accountabilities:
- Complete administration of Oracle databases
- Support all daily operational activities related to database management and administration
- Monitor and tune SQL statements and procedures for all the relevant applications and systems for optimal performance
- Monitor host system performance, identify bottlenecks and implement resolutions
- Implement backup/recovery architecture and procedures
- Maintain database uptime, storage, and performance
- Partner with system administrators in the monitoring and performance of underlying Linux-based database servers
- Partner with development team in designing, developing and testing database stored procedures, triggers, data warehouse ETL processes, materialized view design and maintenance, etc.
- Creation of ongoing monitoring scripts with alerts
- Participate in the 24x7 on-call support for production databases
- Provide management with ongoing operational statistics/reporting as well as capacity planning documentation and recommendations
- Influence purchasing decisions for warehousing/reporting technologies
Qualifications:
- Must have a minimum of 5 years experience in relational Oracle database administration
- Must be familiar with all aspects of Oracle administration under UNIX / Linux including security, database internals, and familiarity with networking and systems administration.
- Must have extensive experience with new features of Oracle 10gR2
- Must have experience of operational responsibility for multiple significant database systems (>250GB) in a high availability (>99.9%), high performance environment
- Must have extensive experience with Oracle backup and recovery procedures (RMAN)
- Must have experience in Oracle RAC and other database clustering techniques
- Must have experience in developing Oracle SQL, PL/SQL, stored procedures, triggers, and packages
- Extensive experience in OLAP Systems and data mining – specific experience in the administration and tuning of ROLAP star schemas and Oracle materialized views
- Moderate knowledge of Unix/Linux shell scripting
- Must be able to communicate and work with both technical and non-technical team members
- B.S. degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or commensurate experience required.
- Must be highly self motivated and directed
